- AVILTON — M. Merla Murray, 74, of Avilton, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. Born April 13, 1939, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Mary (McKenzie) Garlitz. Mrs. Murray was a Senior Accountant for Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, West Salisbury, PA, where she was a Religious Education Director and Organist. She was also a member of Route 40 Homemakers and the treasurer of Cub Scout Pack 49. She is survived by her husband, Robert Paul Murray; one son, Billy Dean Murray, Brunswick; two daughters, Elizabeth Mae Murray, Frederick, Mary Catherine Murray, Avilton; seven grandchildren, Michael Wayne Winebrenner and friend, Toshia Summers, Larry Paul Winebrenner and fiancée, Chrissy, Misti Dawn Murray, Rhonda Marie Woods and husband, Donnell, Christopher Devin Murray, Cory Dion Murray and Caleb Demetrius Murray; and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Rosary service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, West Salisbury, on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Father Nathan Munsch officiating. All right...After spending two nights in the dark and cold (Yep, I was one of those households in Montgomery County who lost electricity and with it, lights, heats, internet, and telephones on Wednesday morning. Wednesday and Thursday nights I read my flashlight from 6:00 pm to 9 pm and then jumped in bed with my clothes on. Electricity came on today at about 2:00 pm.
I don't want to do that again!

GRANTSVILLE,MARYLAND -- James F. McKenzie, retired farmer, died yesterday at the Evans Nursing Home in Oakland.
Born in Avilton, he was a son of Isadore and Henrietta McKenzie, and was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Avilton. His wife, Mrs. Emma (Gray) McKenzie, preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Albert Garlitz, Star Route, Frostburg, and a sister, Mrs. Rachel Miller, of Pennsylvania.
The body is at the home of his daughter. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Anne's Church by Rev. Leiter, OFM Cap., and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
