- Kate McKenzie aka “LK” born 6/23/1901. Worked for William Knecht at the foundry in WestSalisbury. Went to Chicago in the late 30’s was married and soon divorced from a Clarence Gripe of Chicago. In the early50’s she purchased the Armor Estate. We visited it in 56. She lived in an apartment on Dewitt place near the fire tower and Wrigley field. We could watch games from her roof. The estate Tangley Oaks was turned into a office for writers. She was something with a company called United Educator. She sat on the board of an insurance company and a bank as well. Aunt Rose would say she looked like money. They would travel together. Attendants would carry Kate’s bags. Rose said I was right behind her and I had to carry my own bags. Unable to find grave could be in flordia or Chicago. No is alive that I could ask.
