FROSTBURG — Mrs. Mary H. Layman, 86, formerly of Borden Shaft, died yesterday at the Dulaney-Towson Nursing Home, Towson, where she had been a patient 16 months. She had been in failing health two years. Born in Shaft, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Gibson) Harvey. Her husband, Ernest Layman Sr. preceded her in death. She was a member of the Shaft Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Milton R. Smith and Mrs. Charles I. Norris, both of Towson; one son, Lt. Col. Ernest Layman Jr., Ft. George G. Meade; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body will be returned to the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 1 p.m. Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. The Cumberland Sunday Times, July 24, 1967

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton R. Smith. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the old State Normal School, Frostburg. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty S. Green, Houston, Tex., and Mrs. Anne S. Janes, Dallas, Tex.; a son, Milton R. Smith Jr., Timonium; a sister, Mrs. Mary L. Norris, Towson; a brother, Lt. Col. Ernest M. Layman (USA-Ret.)
