    CUMBERLAND — Paul Leonard Evans, 86, of Golden Living Center, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2012. Born Sept. 8, 1925, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late John Evans and Jennie (Anderson) Evans. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Datha P. (Crowe) Evans; second wife of four years, Wanda (Bennett) Evans; brothers and sisters, Russell, Boyd, Clarence, Glenn, Bertha, Myrtle, and Mabel. Paul was a tire builder for the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He served in the Army during World War II. While serving during World War II, Company K, 4th Platoon, 161st Infantry, 25th Division, he was deployed into heavy fighting in the Philippines. Paul attended the Gospel Hall in Cumberland. He enjoyed wood-working and traveling. He was a proprietor of several family owned businesses which include, Evans Grocery, Welsh Hill in Frostburg, Nature’s Way on Park Street and Mason’s Jug Store on Greene Street. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Bowman and husband Doug, of Flintstone, and Pam Shaffer and husband Randy, of Hyndman, Pa.; one son, David Evans and wife Jean, of Cumberland; two stepsons, David Bennett and wife Cathy, and Lenny Bennett and significant other Norma; one granddaughter, Kirsten Dixon and husband Bill; two great-grandchildren, Will and Riley Dixon; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Brother Dick Ganoe officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in Frostburg Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
