MOUNT SAVAGE - Margaret Jane Dorman, 92, formerly of Mount Savage, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had been a resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born June 7, 1906, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Martens) Winebrenner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Stanley Dorman; one daughter, Dorothea Simons; and three sisters, Blanch Helmick, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyszynski. Mrs. Dorman was retired from Mount Savage School Cafeteria. She was an active member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church. She held an office in the Parent-Teacher Association. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Arnold Chapter #57, and was a member of Mount Savage Historical Society, Barrelville Outdoor Club, the Frostburg Senior Citizens, and the Mount Savage Senior Citizens. Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Gibbons, Port Charlotte, Fla., Maxine Leavitt, Silver Spring, and Priscilla Simons, St. Cloud, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Murray Winebrenner, Opalocka, Fla., Victor Winebrenner, Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Anna Dougherty, Honey Grove, Texas, Roberta McGuire, Frostburg, and Rose Alice Hobbins, Brooksville, Fla. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rebecca Arnold Lodge #57 will hold a service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Mount Savage United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. LAKE CITY, Fla. — Priscilla Jane Dorman Simons, 73, of Lake City, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Fla., following a courageous battle with cancer. The Mount Savage native graduated from Mount Savage High School in 1955. She moved to Lake City, Fla., one year ago from Austell, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Margaret Jane Dorman and the late William Stanley Dorman. She was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothea Dorman Simons. Survivors include two sons, Lewis Ayers, of Whitehouse, N.J., and Eric Ayers, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; one daughter, Cassie Hart, of Live Oak, Fla.; two sisters, Maxine Dorman Wixom, of Stevensville, and Eleanor Gibbens, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a very dear friend, Marsha Blanchette, of Lake City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in the Mount Savage United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mount Savage at a later date. Thanks for this update. I don't know the husband's name, but if I recall the last time we visited, what? twenty years ago? he wasn't around. Probably divorced. She and a friend were living in a house in central FL. Maybe the "dear friend" mentioned in the obit.

STORY: Uncle Stanley [Dorman] took Granddaddy on a fishing trip on the river in central MD and passed rowboats with another Winebrenner [David C or D C, I don't remember] who said they were probably related. The other Winebrenner invited them to come up to his house for supper and to examine the records he had. Uncle Stanley was in a hurry to get home, so they turned down the invitation. How close we sometimes may be to discovering roots!
