Hurled from a skidding automobile on a Dan's Mountain road above Cresaptown, shortly before noon yesterday, Paul Clinton Grant, 20, of Cresaptown, was instantly killed, while two companions in the 1931 model cabriolet were taken to Allegany Hospital with head injuries. Officer George J. Miller, State Police, said that the car carried no license tage and that Grant had no driver's card. The officer said he was told the machine was purchased several months ago from a Flintstone man by Robert W. Elliott, 16, Cresaptown, but the vehicle was not registered at the office of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles. Grant, a parcel post messenger at the Celanese plant, was accompanied by his brother, James Grant, and young Elliott, when he went for a ride on the Brant road, recently improved by WPA workers, shortly after 10 a.m. yesterday. The machine was descending a grade, and while rounding a curve, the badly worn tires skidded on loose shale at the edge of the road. Whirling around, the car turned over twice and landed on the open top, with Elliott and James Grant pinioned beneath, while Paul Grant was hurled clear. Philip S. Gordon and Clarence W. Shuck, of Rawlings, arrived in a car within a few minutes and found the elder Grant boy, apparently dead, along the road. They obtained a log and pried the overturned car from the other boys, then took all three to the hospital, where the young Grant was pronounced dead by Dr. Linnie Corson, Deputy Medical Examiner. His neck was broken. The mishap victim was the son of Richard and Eva Grant and is also survived by two other brothers, Robert and William, and five sisters, Mrs. T. J. Clayton, Pinto; Mrs. Mildred Raley, Cresaptown; Mrs. Thomas Shimes, Eckhart; Pauline and Verna Ruth Grant, at home. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
