William Riley Wickard, aged 32 years, oldest son of Constable Samuel Wickard, died Monday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock, death resulting from pneumonia. Mr. Wickard was until recently in the employ of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, in whose service he had an arm accidentally crushed off about five years ago. He is survived by his wife and two children; his father, Mr. Samuel Wickard; one brother, Mr. C. Smith Wickard; sisters, Miss Emma Wickard, Mrs. William Shaffer, and Mrs. Robert Frantz. A son of Mrs. Sue Anna (McKenzie) Wickard and the late Riley Wickard, he had been employed in the bottling plant of the Cumberland Brewing Coompany. He was a member of Local 265, Brewery Workers Union, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Surviving besides his mother and widow, the former Helen Deter, are five sons, Arthur, Charles, Harold, Louis and Roy Wickard, at home; two daughters, Ruth and Marlene Wickard, also at home, and a brother, Sylvester Wickard, city. The body is at the residence. A requiem mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Sylvester William Wickard, 70, of 700 LaFayette Avenue, died Friday in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Riley and Suzanna (McKenzie) Wickard. His wife, Frances (Meirs) Wickard, preceded him in death. Mr. Wickard was a retired employe of the Queen City Brewing Company. A daughter, Miss Mary Louise (Betty) Wickard, at home, is the only survivor. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow. Services will be conducted in the funeral home tomorrow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. No source listed. CUMBERLAND — James Thomas 'Roy' Wickard, 73, of Cumberland, died July 24, 2020, at UMPC Western Maryland. Born Aug. 1, 1946, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arthur Charles Wickard Sr. and Helen Wilhelmina (Deter) Wickard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Wickard and Ruth King; brother, Bernard Wickard; nephews, Allen Champ and George Sneathen; a very special great-great-niece, Bethany Green; and his best friend, Glenn 'Barney' Barnhart, who loved baseball just as much as Roy. Surviving are his brothers, Louis Wickard Sr., Charles Wickard, Arthur Wickard Jr., Harold Wickard; sister, Marlene Lewis; niece, Eileen Sneathen; nephew, Louis Wickard Jr.; and his special niece, Charlotte Champ (Glenn Broadwater); 'Roy was not only my uncle, he was like my dad. Rest in peace Uncle Roy. I Love you.' He is also survived by friends, Gene and Bonnie Hyatt, and many other nieces and nephews. Roy was Catholic by faith and was an altar boy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Roy was the most kind hearted, humblest, sweetest man you'd ever meet. He loved his family with all of his heart. He loved talking baseball with his buddies at Barney's Card Shop. He also loved managing the flea market at the Cumberland Armory for the last 20 plus years. Prior to that, he worked at the Old German Brewery for many years. We would like to thank Sharon Geiger and Cindy Proud and the staff at The Lions Center for the care that they gave to Uncle Roy during his stay there. Visitation at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. The family requests donations be made directly to Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, MD 21502 to assist with funeral expenses.
