Albert B. Mullan – Albert B. Mullan, 78, formerly of 221 Carroll Street, died yesterday at the Thorne Nursing Home, McCoole, where he had been a patient 13 months. A native of Cumberland, he was a son of the late William T. and Anna (Carlos) Mullan. He was formerly a machinist in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad backshops, retiring in 1954 after 35 years service. He was a member of the IA of M Local 222, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and was a charter member of the Cardinal Club. Surviving are his wife, M. Josephine (McKenzie) Mullan, also a patient at the nursing home; two sons, Paul A. and Thomas E. Mullan, this city; a daughter, Mrs. Hilda R. Landis, Spring Gap; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body is at the Kight Funeral Homewhere friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Requiem mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. CUMBERLAND — Paul Ambrose Mullan, 80, of 610 Fairview Ave., Cumberland, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family. Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Albert Mullan and the late Josephine (McKenzie) Mullan. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Mullan. Mr. Mullan was retired as the general manager of the Chessie Employees Federal Credit Union in 1982 after 34 years of service. During his life, he gave to others through his involvement with the Dapper Dan organization and the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as District Commissioner for many years and received many awards. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Seven Gallon Club of the American Red Cross and a life member of the El-Fidel Club. A veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, he was a staff sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division, 504th Parachute Infantry, G Company serving in campaigns in Holland, Anzio and North Africa. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Surviving are his wife, Jean (Standish) Mullan, Cumberland; two daughters, Doris Brady, LaVale, and Carol Krimm and husband Alan, Frederick; two sons, Paul B. Mullan and wife Donna, Oakland, and Patrick Mullan, Cumberland; a sister, Hilda Landis, Oldtown; a brother, Thomas Mullan, Cumberland; and 10 grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Friday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. CUMBERLAND - Thomas E. Mullan, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 17, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Albert and Josephine (McKenzie) Mullan. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Kathryn “Katty" Mullan, who died Nov. 3, 2003; son-in-law, Richard L. Johnson, July 13, 2006; two brothers, Paul Mullan and Francis Mullan; and one sister, Hilda Landis. Mr. Mullan was a United States Navy Veteran where he served on the USS LST 1012 during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was retired from PPG Industries in 1982 as a foreman in the polishing department. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13 and the VFW Henry Hart Post 1411. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Kathryn Johnson, of La Vale; two sons, Edward A. Mullan and wife, Jackie, of Cumberland, Thomas E. Mullan and wife, Nancy, of Annapolis; six grandchildren, Patrick Mullan, of Cumberland, Theresa Abe and husband, Bryan, of Rawlings, Michelle Grabenstein and husband, Mike, of Cumberland, Janet Morris and husband, Kenny, of Romney, W.Va., Aaron Mullan and wife, Karen, of New York, N.Y., Sean Mullan and fiance, Lisa, of Boston, Mass.; and five great-grandchildren, Britney, Kirstie, Christopher, Harleigh and Brooke; sister-in-law, Vera Balsley, of Beverly, Mass. and Jean Mullan, of Cumberland; special caregivers, “his girls” Margaret Davis, Brenda Willis and Nancy Kelly. Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. Pallbearers will be Vic Ryan, Bryan Abe, Mike Grabenstein, Kenny Morris, Aaron Mullan and Sean Mullan.
