Melvin Noah MCKENZIE (George Thomas-4, John L.-3, Samuel J.-2, John M.-1) was born on 1 Dec 1920 in Webster Co., West Virginia. He died on 3 Dec 1974 in Keyser, Mineral Co., West Virginia. KEYSER - Melvin N. McKenzie, 54, of 34 Ward Avenue, died last nigh in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Webster County, W. Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Annie (Carey) McKenzie. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A graduate of Potomac State College, he also graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University. Mr. McKenzie had taught school in Mineral County and was presently employed by the Chessie System. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Rosalee (Rogers) McKenzie, one son, Charles M. McKenzie, Morgantown; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Kalbaough, Keyser; Mrs. Darleen Mouser, Morgantown; two brothers, Daniel McKenzie, Webster County; Norvell McKenzie, Frostburg; six sisters, his twin, Mrs. Norma Mae Alt, Flintstone; Mrs. Verna McClure and Mrs. Myrtle Woodring, both of Webster County; Mrs. Ruby Cottrill, Mrs. Rhoda Murphy, and Mrs. Georgia Hildreth, all of Washington, and four grandsons. Friends will be received in the Rotruck Funeral Home tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home by the Rev. W.W. Harvey. BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Joyce E. Canan, 72, of Dry Run Road, Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born on Oct. 18, 1941 at Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Noah and Rosalee (Rogers) McKenzie. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Dale Canan on Sept. 16, 2012; a son, Brian Canan and a sister, Darlene Mauser.
Mrs. Canan was retired with over 40 years of service as a secretary with the West Virginia Department of Highways. She was a graduate of Keyser High School and was a member of the Burlington Union Church, Ladies Auxiliary to Queen's Point Memorial Post 6775, VFW, McCoole, and Alkire Chapter 10, Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser.
Surviving are five sons, Michael Lantz Gordon of Keyser, Robert Lee Kalbaugh II and partner, Rayetta O'Brien of Romney, W.Va., Kenneth R. Canan of Keyser, Christopher D. Canan and wife, Sharon of Romney, and Phillip M. Canan of Antioch, W.Va.; one brother, Charles McKenzie of Burlington; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 from 12 to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Hogg Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Canan Family Cemetery, Burlington.
