FROSTBURG — Philip H. Knepp, 82, of near Eckhart, died yesterday. He had been in failing health three years. Born in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Henry and Susan (Ambrose) Knepp. His wife, Bertha (Blocher) Knepp, preceded him in death. Mr. Knepp was a retired carpenter for the Allegany Ballistics laboratory. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. James Beach, Mrs. Olive Thomas, here; Mrs. Clifford Bennett, Eckhart; Mrs. Fred Crowe, Choteau. Mont., and Mrs. Harry Noe, Cleveland, Ohio: three sons, Bernard Knepp, here; Bernell Knepp, Washington, and Harold Knepp, Eckhart; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted. He died on 15 Nov 1961 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. FROSTBURG — Edward L. Thomas, 57, of 221 Center Street, was pronounced dead on arrival at Miners Hospital last night and death was due to a self-inflicted bullet wound in the head, according to Frostburg City Police. Frostburg Police Chief Leslie Bevan and Officer Allan Robison said Mr. Thomas and his son, Edward L. Thomas Jr., had gone to the site of a new house Edward Jr. has been building on Midlothian Road. The elder Thomas went outside to his son's car and found his father dead of a bullet wound in his right temple. Police said Mr. Thomas had used a .22 caliber revolver which his son kept in the car. They said the son told them the pistol normally was unloaded, but they found six cartridges in the chamber, one of them discharged. The officers said the younger Mr. Thomas told them his father had been in ill health in recent weeks. The father and son operated the Frostburg city dump. Mr. Thomas was born February 21, 1904 in Frostburg, son of the late Llewelyn Evans and Ida (Sharpe) Thomas. He worked at Celanese Fibers Company's Amcelle Plant, and was a member of Local 1874, Textile Workers Union of America. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was a Mason. Surviving, besides his son, are his wife, Mrs. Olive Mae (Knepp) Thomas, a daughter, Emmajean Thomas, at home; two brothers, William Thomas, Kingsville, Tex., and Daniel Thomas, Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Davis, Westernport, and five grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home in Frostburg, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. A native of Eckhart, he was a son of the late Cleaver C. and Josephine (Carter) Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a retired coal miner and farmer and a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ethel (Knepp) Bennett; one son, Robert C. Bennett, Eckhart; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Fredin, Auburn, Mass., and Mrs. Emma Brewer, here, and one grandchild. Born here, he was a son of the late Philip Knepp and Bertha (Blocher) Knepp. Mr. Knepp was formerly employed in the boiler room at Frostburg State College. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Farrady Post 24, American Legion; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348 and BPO Elks Lodge 470. Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Beach and Mrs. Olive Thomas, both here; Mrs. Ethel Bennett, Eckhart; Mrs. Janet Crowe, Kalispell, Mont.; Mrs. Margaret Noe, Cleveland, Ohio; his twin brother, Vernell Knepp, Forestville, Md.; Harold E. ECKHART - Harold E. Knepp, 78, of Eckhart, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born February 13, 1926, in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Philip and Bertha (Blocher) Knepp. He was also preceded in death by his son, Harold Knepp, Jr., and several brothers and sisters. He was retired from Kings Department Store, and for years was a construction worker. He was a member of the Eckhart Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 66th Panther Truck Division. Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Ryan) Knepp; two daughters: Joyce Troutman and husband, Robert, Eckhart, and Julie Crowe and husband, David, Cumberland; four grandchildren: Jack Rafferty, Jr., Miranda D. Crowe, Danielle Troutman, and David Crowe, Jr.; one brother, Bernell Knepp, and wife, Ruth, Berkeley Springs, WV; and one sister, Marguerite Noe, Cleveland, OH. His body will be cremated. RAWLINGS - Edward L. "ET" Thomas, 76, of Rawlings, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at WMHS-Braddock Campus, Cumberland. Born June 12, 1931, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Edward and Olive (Knepp) Thomas. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Emmogene "Sissy" Thomas and one great-granddaughter, Tiffany Marie Adams. Mr. Thomas was a U.S. Navy Reserve veteran of the Korean Conflict, owner and operator of The House of Ice, Rawlings, former owner and operator of The University Snack Bar, Braddock Road, Frostburg, former Vice-president of the News, Hi-Way and Hudson Oil Companies and was a former employee of ABL. Surviving are his wife and sidekick, Beverly (Buser) Thomas; one son, Edward Lee Thomas and wife Vicki, of Frostburg; three stepsons, Rick T. Brode and wife Krista, of Cumberland, Troy P. Brode and wife Lisa, of Sarasota, Fla., and Chris S.
