GRANTSVILLE — Henry F. Durst, 83, died Thursday evening in the Cuppett Nursing Home in Oakland where, he had been a patient two years. Born in New Germany on April 22, 1880, he was a son of the late Augustus and Nancy (McKenzie) Durst. Besides his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth (Miller) Durst, he is survived by three sons, Sylvan Durst, California, Dallas and Wayne Durst, both of Grantsville; three brothers, George Durst, Cumberland; Delbert and Marshall Durst, both of Grantsville, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Durst was a life-long member of the Grantsville Methodist Church where a service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST with Rev. Emory McGraw officiating. Interment will be in the New Germany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold, Gideon, Glenn, Paul, William and Melvin Durst. He was born at New Germany, and was a son of the late Henry F. and Elizabeth (Miller) Durst. He was a former employee of the Kelly - Springfield Tire company and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Grantsville, Md. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mae (Broadwater) Durst; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jo Stull, of La Mirada, Calif., Mrs. Sue Bowers, of Grantsville and Mrs. Peggy Robertson, of Barton; one son, William H. Durst, of Buckhannon, W.Va.; one brother, Wayne H. Durst, of Grantsville; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Republic, February 18, 1982

GRANTSVILLE - Dallas A. Durst, 58, died yesterday at Miners Hospital after a lingering illness. Born in New Germany, he was a son of Mrs. Elizabeth (Miller) Durst and the late Henry F. Durst. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Beulah (Hare) Durst; two sons, Melvin and Dwayne Durst, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Joanne Umbel, Takoma Park; two brothers, Sylvan Durst, Anaheim, Calif., and Wayne Durst, here. He was a member of Grantsville Methodist Church and a past president of the Methodist Men of the church. Th« body is at the Newman Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. Emory McGraw and Rev. GRANTSVILLE — Wayne Henderson Durst completed his tour of duty on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, after serving with honor for 93 years. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Grantsville, and departed life from Goodwill Assisted Living Facility where he last resided. Born March 5, 1922, in New Germany, he was the son of the late Henry Francis and Harriet Elizabeth (Miller) Durst. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Rae (Broderick) Durst; two brothers, Sylvan and Dallas Durst and one sister, Cleo Durst. Wayne served with distinction in the 25th Infantry division during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and commanded infantry troops in combat. He was a life member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and he was very active in that organization, especially by serving Funeral Details to honor his comrades in arms. He was also a life member of Walker-Harris Post 8826, V.F.W., Salisbury, Pa. He was the Parts Room Manager for Motor Service Co., (now Diehl Ford Sales) and also worked several years at heavy construction. Wayne was a Christian man, both in faith and in acts. He was a long time member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Grantsville. He had a beautiful voice and participated in church and community choirs. Wayne was the guy you could count on to know the right thing to do and then to do it. Of his many accomplishments in this life, Wayne was most proud of his two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved. Deborah is married to Robert Stuck of Oakland, they have two children: a son, T.D. and his wife, Jennifer and their children, Glendon, Willis and Orion and a daughter, Chelsea. Kay is married to Jody Theriot of Grantsville, she has three sons, Anthony; Joe and his wife, Michelle and their two boys, Lucas and Drew and son, Jeremy. Friends will be received at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. Services will follow in the church at 4 p.m. with Pastor Jenna Moon officiating. Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. Surviving are one brother, Duane Durst, Grantsville, Md.; and one sister, Mrs. Joanne Umbel, Friendsville, Md. Duane Hanson “Bear” Durst, 61, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his residence. Born Dec. 9, 1951, he was the son of the late Dallas and Beulah (Hare) Durst. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Durst; and a sister, Joanne Umbel. Bear was a diesel mechanic for R & M Trucking and Grantsville Truck & Trailer. He is survived by an uncle, Wayne H. Durst, and a special friend and caregiver, Kelly King, both of Grantsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
