    FROSTBURG- Edwin Francis Garlitz, 84, of Frostburg passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Meyersdale. Born in Garrett County on March 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Olin Garlitz and Bertha (McKenzie) Garlitz. He was preceded in death by both wives, Rose Mary (Crowe) Garlitz and Margaret (Beeman) Garlitz and an infant son. He was also preceded in death by great friends, Albert Winner, George Winner, Fred Winner, Harry Winner, and Manuel Winner. He was a heavy equipment operator for Winner Brothers Coal Company. Edwin served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran. He served in the 8th and 5th Air Force. He was a 50 year member of the VFW, the American Legion Farrady Post #24, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth "Pete" Garlitz and wife Debora, Cumberland; Tommy "Head" Garlitz, Frostburg; and Mike Garlitz, Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Sharon Kearney, and husband Robert, Georgia; Amy Mathis and husband, Troy, Delaware; and Audrey and Mary. Also surviving are brothers, Paul Garlitz, Herman Garlitz, and Ellis Garlitz, sister, Leona McKenzie, and lifelong friends Leonard and Tommy Winner. The Garlitz Family would like to thank the Nurses, Doctors, and Staff of the hospital and the Golden Living Nursing Home. Edwin's lengthy battle with Dementia and Alzheimer's was terrible, but the kindness and love from all involved made it easier to endure. God Bless and thanks to everyone.
