    Cumberland - Francis S. "Beck" McKenzie, 90, of Gephart Drive, Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his residence. Born Sept. 30, 1909, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late George J. and Mary (Hershberger) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Loretta E. (Starkey) McKenzie in February of this year; eight brothers; and two sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. McKenzie was a former employee of the Celanese, Dade County, Florida Board of Education and retired from Mason's Barn Restaurant. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Engineer veteran of World War II. He was a member of V.F.W. Henry Hart Post 1411 and Charter member of the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are two daughters, Annabelle Butler and husband, Charles "Bo", LaVale, Willia Powell, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Teri Detrick and husband, David, Ridgeley, W.Va.; six grandsons, Brad Butler, Sr., Fayetteville, N.C., Bret Butler and wife, Cindy, Thurmont, Rusty Butler and wife, Beth, Lonaconing, B.K. Powell and wife, Sheila, Morgantown, W.Va., Cliff Powell and wife, Kim, Springfield, W.Va., Dane Powell and wife, Christina, Baltimore; three great-grandsons, Jason Detrick, Sr., Fort Ashby, W.Va., Brad Butler, Jr., Fayetteville, N.C., Shawn Powell, Springfield; nine great-granddaughters, Tracy Ott, Martinsburg, W.Va., Hollie Butler, Charles Town, W.Va., Aimee Butler, Martinsburg, W.Va., Tara Detrick, Lara Detrick, both of Ridgeley, Sandy Powell, Romney, Bridgett Stockett and husband, Dana, Katie Powell, all of Morgantown, W.Va.; Kayla Butler, Thurmont; four great-great-grandchildren, Brianna Stockett, Morgantown, Ashley Detrick, Fort Ashby, Cameron Butler, Martinsburg, and Jason Detrick, Jr., Fort Ashby. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad Butler, B.K. Powell, Cliff Powell, Bret Butler, Dane Powell, and David Detrick. November 7, 1999, Cumberland Times-News.

    Francis married Loretta Elizabeth Starkey on 12 May 1928 in Allegany County, Maryland. Loretta (daughter of J. Gibson Starkey and Bertha McBee) was born on 21 Oct 1911 in Ridgeley, Mineral County, West Virginia; died on 18 Feb 1999 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    LAVALE - Annabelle M. (McKenzie) Butler, 81, of LaVale, died on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born Sept. 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frances S. McKenzie and Loretta E. (Starkey) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Willa "Willie" J. (McKenzie) Powell and husband Boyd K. Powell Sr. On Sept. 5, 1953, Annabelle married the love of her life, Charles A. "Bo" Butler. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2010. The passion and priority of her life was her everlasting love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Teri (Butler) Detrick and husband David, Ridgeley, W.Va.; three sons, Brad Butler of Raeford, N.C., Bret Butler and wife Cindy, Thurmont, and Rusty Butler and wife Beth, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren, Jason Detrick and wife Missie, Hollie Higgs and husband Roger, Tracy Butler, Aimee Butler, Brad Butler, Jr. and Candace, Tara Wiley and husband Jon, Lara Detrick, Kayla Butler and Kirby Butler; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jason Jr., Brooke, Tanner, and Alek Detrick, Madison and Robert Higgs, Cameron Butler, Jahlile and Markeice Bowens, Avery and Trinity Butler; special nephews, B.K. and Sheila Powell and family; Cliff and Kim Powell and Family, and Dane and Chrissy Powell and family. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Jim Hannon as celebrant. Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Pallbearers will be Brad Butler, Bret Butler, Rusty Butler, Dave Detrick, Jason Detrick, Brad Butler Jr., Kirby Butler and Jason Detrick Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be B.K.
