Westernport, Md., July 5 - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth McKenzie, aged 93, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Leese, 221 Rock street, of infirmities of age. She was born at Knobley, W. Va., April 7, 1842, and lived the greater part of her life at Rawlings, Md., after which she moved to Deer Park, Md., where she resided for 28 years. She had made her home with her daughter here for the past seven years. She is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Fannie Savage, Cumberland. Funeral services will be held from the home of her grandson, Bernard Leese at 325 Vine street, Sunday, at 2:30 p.m. with interment in the cemetery at Twenty-first Bridge, Md. Rev. C. K. Welsh, pastor of the United Brethren Church and Rev. Fred R. Barnes, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, will be in charge. I found in the Garrett County news a few mentions about Fannie Savage visiting her sister and aged mother, Susie Dawson and Sarah McKenzie. There was also mention that in 1926 and 1928 Susie was seriously ill. Susie was born Oct. 1862, according to the 1900 census in Rawlings, already widowed; Sarah, Apr 1842 (which is what we have) spelled MacKenzie. In the Garrett Co. 1910 census, still living together. No children with them. Sarah says she bore 6 children, 4 living; Susie says 1 born, 0 living. No obit for any Dawson in 1928. 1930 census, Sarah's living with the Savages. Still have nothing for Mary, but Don says Ancestry has her connected to Joseph Lintz. I did find a Joseph Lintz in the 1880 census, single, living with other than family. Charles McKenzie, a promising and robust young man, died at the home of his mother at Rawlings, this morning at 8 o'clock, aged 21 years. He had an attack of pneumonia a week ago, which was the cause of his sudden death. He was an active member of the M. E. church and Epworth League. His last moments were seemingly happy ones, as a few minutes before his death he looked out and made a remark about the beautiful day and the beautiful light and said he would soon be there, and then bade his mother and others goodbye and died while quietly repeating the Lord's prayer. Thus passed away one of the noblest young men of this county. He will be buried Thursday. Funeral at Maple Grove church (Rawlings) at 1:30. Interment at Dayton cemetery. Mr. Joseph McKenzie died at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Sarah McKenzie, at Rawlings station at two o'clock this morning, of pneumonia. The deceased was 19 years of age and had only been ill since last Wednesday. He was a nephew of the late Charles A. McKenzie who was buried on Thursday, and who made his home in the same family. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. A special train will be run over the West Virginia Central road and will leave here at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Mrs. Beulah Rene (Lease) Berry, 55, Dawson, died of a cerebral hemorrhage yesterday while waiting for a bus near Cook's service station, McMullen highway, to bring her to Cumberland. Mrs. Berry was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Lease, Cumberland, and the widow of Henry T. Berry, of Rawlings. She was a member of Rawlings Methodist church. Surviving besides her parents are four children, Mrs. Ruth Lease, Bowman's addition; Wilbur T. Berry Army; Juanita Berry, Ridgeley, W. Va., and Frances T. Berry, at home; four brothers, Arch and Richard Lease, Minneapolis, Minn.; Kenneth Lease, Washington, D. C.; Bernard Lease, Frostburg; and four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Cannon, Baltimore; Mrs. Murray Gordon, Rawlings; Mrs. Elsie Hahn, Triple Lakes, and Mrs. Grace Williams, Cumberland. Seven grandchildren also survive. Dr. Linne H. Corson, deputy county medical examiner gave a certificate of death from natural causes. The body will remain at the Hafer Funeral Home. Besides her father, she is survived by four sons, Irvin, Ellwood, and John Cannon, all of Cumberland; Alfred Cannon, Baltimore; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Huff, Cleveland; Mrs. Richard Scarlett, Baltimore; Mrs. Richard Lowman, Cumberland; two brothers, Richard Lease, Cumberland; Kenneth Lease, Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gordon, Rawlings, Mrs. Daniel Haan, Cresaptown; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Mary B. Gordon, 75, of Rawlings, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital where she was admitted February 16. She had been in failing health the past year. A native of Rawlings, she was a daughter of the late William W. and Margaret (McKenzie) Lease, and the widow of Benjamin H. Gordon. She was a member of Rawlings Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Marie Gordon, Rawlings; two sons, Benjamin H. Gordon, Jr., Rawlings, and Ira M. Gordon, Bruceton Mills, W. Va.; a brother W. Kenneth Lease, Washington; a sister, Mrs. Elsie E. Hahn, Triple Lakes; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body is at the George Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p. m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p. m. Roy A. Lease, 56, former resident of this city, died March 2 in the Veterans' hospital at Port Ouster, Mich., where he had been a patient for some time. A construction worker, he was seriously injured in a fall from a bridge in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1943. Mr. Lease was born at Rawlings, a son of William Lease, this city, and the late Margaret (McKenzie) Lease. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Rawlings Methodist church. Surviving, besides his father, are his widow, Mrs. Ethel (Bloomer) Lease; three children, Joyce Mary, Harvey and Roy D. Lease, at home; three brothers, Bernard Lease, of Frostburg; Richard Lease, this city, and Kenneth Lease, of Washington, and four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Connor, of Baltimore; Mrs. Mary Gordon, of Rawlings; Mrs. Elsie Hahn, of Triple Lakes, and Mrs. Grace Williams, this city. Born Dec. 12, 1903 in Rawlings, Md., she was the daughter of the late William Lease and Margaret (McKenzie) Lease. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Haan, and by two sons, W. Randolph Haan and Kenneth D. Haan. Mrs. Haan was a sitter for the elderly and a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Tri-State Chapter of Gold Star Mothers, the American Legion Auxiliary, Fort Cumberland Unit 13, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Fort Washington 2, and a member of Friends Aware. Cumberland, MD - W. Kenneth Lease, 96, formerly of Washington, D.C. and residing in Cumberland, died on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at his home. Born October 28, 1906, in Rawlings, MD, he was the son of the late William Wright Lease and Margaret Elizabeth (McKenzie) Lease. Mr. Lease was also preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Retiring in 1973 from the United States Department of Agriculture, Washington, DC, after thirty-one and one-half years of service, Mr. Lease remained in Washington, DC, until 1996, when he took up residence in his hometown of Cumberland. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Mr. Lease is survived by three nieces, Colleen Lowman and her husband, Richard, Cumberland, MD; Shirley Bechie, LaVale, MD; and Frances Marschall, Middle River, MD; three nephews, Bernard Leese, Silver Spring, MD; Rex Leese, Frostburg, MD; and Douglas Haan, Cumberland, MD; his great nieces, Maureen Burkey, Cumberland, MD; Caroline Ratchford, Cumberland, MD; and Christine Raines, Cumberland, MD; and a special great-great nephew, Nelson Raines, Cumberland, MD. Mrs. Elsie Lytton, 69, former resident of Cumberland residing in Newport News, Va., died there yesterday in Riverside Hospital after a short illness. A native of Deer Park, Mrs. Lytton was a daughter of the late John C. and Fannie (McKenzie) Savage. She was the widow of Byrd Lytton. Mrs. Lytton was a retired employe of the Celanese Fibers Company here. She was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel here. Surviving is one daughter. Miss Edna M. Lytton, Newport News. The body is at the Peninsula Funeral Home there where friends are being received today. Services will be conducted at the funeral home tomorrow at 2 p. m. by Capt.
