Mrs. Belinda McKenzie, eighty-one, resident of Hebron and vicinity forty-five years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. L.V. Raymond, 2675 Sewell, Monday at 6:30 p.m. Born at Meyersdale, Pa., she came to Nebraska in 1886 to settle on a farm near Hebron. She had lived in town for the past twenty-seven years.
Surviving besides Mrs. Raymond are six other daughters, Mrs. Anna Barr, Mrs. D.E. Marsh, Mrs. Grace Stone, Mrs. L.E. Thomas and Mrs. R.B. McDermet, all of Hebron; Mrs. S.P. Duncan, Crawford; four sons, C.E., Springfield, Mo.; A.A., Hartman, Colo.; Lloyd, Hebron, and R.V., Fairbury. The body will be taken to Hebron for services and burial.

Our beloved mother, Ruth Ann Johnson, born June 5, 1919 in Fairbury, Nebraska passed away March 16 at the age of 98. Ruth grew up as Ruth Ann Thomas in Hebron, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska. She taught school in Nebraska until she married her husband, George Johnson, in 1945. She was a longtime resident of Superior until her husband George’s retirement from his law practice in 1983. She moved with her husband to Tucson, Arizona where they spent their retirement years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. She was a joy. She greeted everyone with a welcoming hug and a beautiful smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her brothers Robert and Richard and her grandson Mark.
She is survived by children Kay (Gary) Harvey of Woodbury, Minnesota, Tom (Margie) Johnson of Tucson, Arizona and Mike (Lynn) Johnson of Grand Island, Nebraska. She is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was a devout Presbyterian and active in the Superior Presbyterian Church. After moving to Tucson she and her husband were members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband in Superior and Tucson. She loved playing bridge and Scrabble. She learned Spanish and volunteered to teach Spanish-speaking children English. She was active in PEO until recent years.
Private family service and interment will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214.

Shirley M. (McDermet) Christiancy was born to Ralph B. McDermet and Maude R. (McKenzie) McDermet on November 19, 1925 in Scottsbluff NE., and passed away on March 6, 2012 in Geneva NE.
Shirley was one of five children in the family. She grew up in Hebron, NE and was graduated from Hebron High School in 1944. During World War II, she served her country working at the Bruning Air Base and for the OPA in Hebron. After the war, she worked for several years at the Thayer County court house in Hebron. Shirley was married to Rodger L. Christiancy of Geneva, NE on February 22, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. The couple farmed near Grafton for two years, and then moved to the Christiancy homestead in 1956 where they farmed for the next 40 years until shortly before Rodger's death in 1997. In 1980, the Christiancy farm was honored by the Knights of Ak Sar Ben with the Nebraska Pioneer Farm award for being in the same family for 100 years. Shirley and Rodger were Husker football and basketball fans and season ticket holder for many years. Shirley had a passion for their farm, for her pet cats and dogs, and for gardening, playing bridge, sewing and all forms of needlework.
Shirley was preceded in death by: husband, parents, infant brother, Jack McDermet; sister, Janice R. (McDermet) Maly; brothers-in-law James Maly; Claire Christiancy; Robert Christiancy; Ernie Volf; Harold Schmid, and sister-in-law Ardith Schmid; and niece, Peggy ( McDermet) Pfieffer.
Shirley is survived by: sister, Mariam (McDermet) Eichel and brother-in-law Albert Eichel of Wantagh, NY.; brother, Jim McDermet and sister-in-law Marilyn McDermet of West Des Moines, IA.; sisters-in-law Marilyn Christiancy of Geneva, Kay Christiancy of Franklin and Evelyn Volf of Omaha; nineteen nieces and nephews, thirty-five great nieces and nephews and twenty-two great-great nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Geneva Public Cemetery, Geneva, NE.

Janice earned her R.N. degree from Creighton St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1948.
On July 27, 1948, she married James C. Maly, M.D.
After a brief time in Anchorage, Alaska, the couple settled in Fullerton, where they provided medical care for the next 30+ years. Her husband passed away in 1982.
In 1985, she moved to Lincoln where for 20 years she served as housemother at UNL and Nebraska Wesleyan fraternities and sororities including Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Lambda Chi, Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Gamma Delta. Following her retirement, she moved to Albion and resided there until her death.
To their union was born six children, Diane Vigna, James Maly, Judith Nesbitt and Suzie Maly-Hergenrader, all of Lincoln, William Maly of Hancock Iowa, and Timothy Maly of Berthoud, Colo., son-in-law, Edward Vigna, and daughter- in-law, Jane Maly, both of Lincoln, daughter- in-law, Sallie Maly of Hancock, Iowa, and Catherine Maly of Berthod, Colo., grandchildren, Andrea Vigna Butler, Katherine Vigna Krol, John Vigna, Megan Maly, Elizabeth Maly Wigginton, Anne Maly, Connor Maly, Jamie Nesbitt Hagen, Tony Nesbitt, Micah Maly, Joel Maly, Allison Hergenrader, Alexandra Hergenrader, Kipp Hergenrader and Cameron Hergenrader; and seven great-grandchildren, Molly Butler, Brady Butler, Henry Butler, Zailynn Nesbitt, Zarra Nesbitt, Madelyn Krol and Charles Krol.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
After crashing their private airplane in the jungle of the Amazon River basin in Brazil in 1965, along with her husband, Janice co-founded a jungle clinic to serve the medical needs of the Mundurucu Indians and other Amazon tribes. For their heroic efforts to provide medical care to this isolated group of people, they were honored with the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award, and the Creighton University Outstanding Alumni Award. Their endeavor was chronicled in the book To Bucktail and Back…A Million Miles of Memories by Tom Allan, Omaha World-Herald Nebraska Byways Columnist who accompanied them to the Amazon jungle clinic for three weeks in 1966.
Janice was a long-time Husker fan and season ticket holder for almost 50 years. Her most memorable Husker game was the 1971 "game of the century". Her family contends she helped win the game for the Huskers by praying her rosary non-stop that day as she sat in the north end zone of the Oklahoma stadium! She enjoyed doing needlework and golfing.
Burial was in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery, Fullerton, NE.

Paul Ray McKenzie, 75, Osage Beach, died Jan. 2, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Hebron, Neb., a son of Fred and Agnus McKenzie. He was married in October1949 to Carol Pierce McKenzie, who survives at the home. He graduated from Hebron High School. He was a farmer and worked for Farm Bureau Insurance as district supervisor for an area of Nebraska and Iowa. In 1972, he purchased Belle Villa Best Western Motel, Belleville, Kan., and later purchased Lake Chateau Best Western, Osage Beach. He was a Navy veteran. Other survivors include: two sons, Mike McKenzie, Lebanon, and Mark McKenzie, Osage Beach; two daughters, Ellen Shank, Omaha, Neb., and Karen Lehr, Osage Beach; one sister, Mary Marr; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hebron. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach, with a rosary at 3 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Tri-County YMCA, Capital Campaign Fund for the future YMCA building, Box 541, Osage Beach, MO 65065.
