Born Aug. 1, 1946, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arthur Charles Wickard Sr. and Helen Wilhelmina (Deter) Wickard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Wickard and Ruth King; brother, Bernard Wickard; nephews, Allen Champ and George Sneathen; a very special great-great-niece, Bethany Green; and his best friend, Glenn 'Barney' Barnhart, who loved baseball just as much as Roy. Surviving are his brothers, Louis Wickard Sr., Charles Wickard, Arthur Wickard Jr., Harold Wickard; sister, Marlene Lewis; niece, Eileen Sneathen; nephew, Louis Wickard Jr.; and his special niece, Charlotte Champ (Glenn Broadwater); 'Roy was not only my uncle, he was like my dad. Rest in peace Uncle Roy. I Love you.' He is also survived by friends, Gene and Bonnie Hyatt, and many other nieces and nephews. Roy was Catholic by faith and was an altar boy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Roy was the most kind hearted, humblest, sweetest man you'd ever meet. He loved his family with all of his heart. He loved talking baseball with his buddies at Barney's Card Shop. He also loved managing the flea market at the Cumberland Armory for the last 20 plus years. Prior to that, he worked at the Old German Brewery for many years. We would like to thank Sharon Geiger and Cindy Proud and the staff at The Lions Center for the care that they gave to Uncle Roy during his stay there. Visitation at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. The family requests donations be made directly to Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, MD 21502 to assist with funeral expenses.
