Notes	August 13, 2008, Cumberland Times-News ~ CARLOS - Thomas Hitchins, 87, of Carlos, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at WMHS Memorial Campus. Born in Carlos on Jan. 9, 1921, he was the son of the late John Hitchins and Laura (Lucas) Hitchins. He was preceded in death by one brother, George; one sister, Isabel; and one niece, Lauralee Drew. Mr. Hitchins was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He worked at the Celanese Corporation and the PPG Glass Plant, retiring from Allegheny Mining Corporation. He attended Carlos United Methodist Church, and he was Christian by faith. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Mella V. (Miller) Hitchins of 62 years; one sister, Mary Drew; three sons, Leslie, Ronnie and wife Nora and Timothy and wife Tammy; three daughters, Jeanne Herrell and husband Steve, Cindy Hitchins and Melody Fink and husband Ron. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rhonda Skidmore, Eddie Hitchins, Kendra Fink, Travis Hitchins, Brandon Hitchins, Tessa Hitchins and twins, Curtis and Colten Fink; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Hitchins and Ashlyne Skidmore; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Midland, on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, from noon to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home, Midland, on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carlos United Methodist Church, Carlos. Memorial cards will be available at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his three grandsons, Eddie, Travis and Brandon Hitchins, also Ron Fink, Steve Herrell and Denny Skidmore.
