- FROSTBURG — Thomas R. Powell, 65, of Frostburg, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born July 17, 1946, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Huey W. Sr. and Lola V. (Frost) Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Keith Powell, and one brother, Charles Powell. Tom was U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was retired from P.T.I Transportation as a driver, but also held employment with B&O Railroad, FSU Maintenance, and American Legion Farrady Post 24, where he tended bar. Surviving are his two brothers, Huey W. (Buck) Powell Jr. and wife Cheryl, of West Virginia, Joseph W. Powell and wife Gloria, of Mount Savage; aunt, Hazel Miller, of Cumberland; uncle, James Powell, of Cumberland; loving friend and companion, Nellie Bittner, of Frostburg; cousin, Donnie Gentry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday following the viewing at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Farrady Post 24, Frostburg. Tom was cremated in accordance with his wishes and will be buried at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, at a later date. Cumberland Times-News, May 9, 2012
