- FROSTBURG — Bernard Samuel Eisler, 79, of Frostburg, formerly of Finzel, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, following a courageous and difficult battle with cancer. On Nov. 5, 1930, he was born in the beautiful mountains of Garrett County; a place he was proud to call home. Bernard was honored to be the son of the late Samuel and Grace (Arnold) Eisler. He was also preceded in death by his cherished sister, Evelyn Eisler; and foster brother and comrade, Robert “Bob” Smith. Mr. Eisler was a 1947 graduate of Grantsville High School, Grantsville. He was proud to be the opening general manager at the Chestnut Ridge Gulf and Liquor Store, Grantsville, where he continued to manage and operate until his retirement in 1988. Previously he was the general manager of the Garrett County Liquor Store, Main St., Grantsville. He was a retired member of the Eastern Garrett Volunteer Fire Company, where he was presented Fireman of the Year in 1983.
Surviving, to continue to keep his love flowing, is “the love of his life”, his wife of 34 years, Colleen E. Brodie; and his valued and only son, Rick Eisler, Fredericksburg, Va. He was also rewarded with his two treasured “daughters”, Alana (Brodie) Nicol and husband Wayne “Nick”, LaVale, and his devoted “Baby”, Londa (Brodie) Walker and husband Marty of Frostburg; three grandchildren, that were all his precious, pride and joy, his oldest grandson, Adam Nicol and wife Kathy of Cresaptown, his priceless and adoring granddaughter, his “Sweetie”, Bridget Troutman and fiancé, Jerimie Diehl, of Ellerslie, his youngest grandson and “Buddy”, David Walker at home; and two very special great-grandsons, Codi Nicol and Atticus Nicol, Cresaptown; and a very special cousin, which he loved like a little sister, Eileen Ewing, her husband, Kenny, and her daughter, Missy, all of Finzel; his very, very special and adoring grand ”pug”, Stanley, also of Frostburg; and many other cousins, relatives and close friends. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Mr. Eisler’s loving and caring Pallbearers will be Wayne “Nick” Nicol, Marty Walker, Adam Nicol, David Walker, Jerimie Diehl and Codi Nicol, and very special Honorary Pallbearer will be Atticus Nicol.
