    • FROSTBURG - George Lawrence Layman, 75, of 202 Braddock Heights, Frostburg, died May 23, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Shaft, he was the son of the late George H. and Catherine (Long) Layman. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond L. Layman and Paul L. Layman; and a sister, Virginia Layman Dawson. Mr. Layman was a retired Road Foreman for the Maryland State Highway Administration. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1442, Loyal Order of Moose #348, Old Rail Post V.F.W. #6025, Mount Savage, and Farrady Post #24 American Legion where he was a 50-year member, served on the Honor Guard, and twice served as Post Commander. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mary Margaret (Bryson) Layman; two sons, Larry Layman and wife, Jackie, Baltimore, and Mike Layman and wife, Michelle, Frostburg; four grandchildren, Jim Layman and Lisa Layman, Baltimore, Lucas Layman and Rose Layman, Frostburg; three sisters, Rosalie Drew, Frostburg, Marjorie Densmore, FL, and Mildred Minnick, DE; a brother, Charles Layman, Baltimore; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes as Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Parish Cemetery, Frostburg. Members of the American Legion Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
