- CUMBERLAND — Thelma Mae “Ace” Whitacre, 86, of Cumberland, passed away on June 14, 2014, at her home. Born June 10, 1928, in Centerville Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Adeline (Barry) Crowe. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Whitacre; their children, Diane, Dixie and James; her brothers, Franklin, Elmer, and James Crowe; and a sister, Elsie Bromball (Broomhall?). Thelma was a teacher’s aide for 26 years for the Allegany County Board of Education. She loved playing shuffleboard and bingo. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Surviving are her three daughters, Gale Miller of Frederick, Nita Broadus and husband William of Cumberland and Kitty Gross and husband Bob; nine sons, Calvin L. “Rusty” Miller and wife Pernom of Springfield, Va., Ronald O. Miller and wife Mary Louise of Williamsburg, Jackie D. Miller and wife Jeanette of Cumberland, Gary A. Miller of Maryland, Steve W. Miller of Cumberland, Roger T. Miller and wife Laura of Cumberland, Frank Borelli and wife Debbie of Lusby, Eddie Whitacre and wife Brenda, Cumberland, and Terry Whitacre, Cumberland; two sisters, Margaret Liller and Anne (Polly) Porter and husband Donald; two brothers, Bill Crowe and Leroy Crowe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 5 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Cumberland Times-News, June 16, 2014
