    Notes
    • Harold Ellsworth Fike, Sr., completed his earthly appointed time and his life’s journey on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg, MD, surrounded by his loving family, and has joined his beloved wife, Twila Mae, to welcome the blessings of their Lord and Savior. He was born May 15, 1923, in Avilton, MD and was the son of the late Otho and Linnie (Weitzell) Fike. As the last surviving sibling, his sisters, Laura Eichorn, Fanny Fike, Olive Robeson, Anna Chaney, Mildred Bell, and Rose Wilhelm, and brothers, George, Ray, and twin brother, Cecil, preceded him in death. His deeply sadden family, including four daughters, Carol Frazee and husband, Ward, Ft. Ashby, WV, Linda Conner and husband, James, Cumberland, MD, Barbara Johnson and husband, Robert, Greenville, FL, Joan Kyle and husband, Larry, Cumberland and son, Harold Fike, Jr., and wife, Kathleen, LaVale, MD, survive Mr. Fike. He was “Pap Pap” to 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. Mr. Fike farmed the property where he was born, raised and lived for 94 years. In addition, he worked in the timber industry. Later in his career, he worked for Stanton’s Mill and the Garrett County Roads Department as a supervisor. He personified his Christian faith by the way he lived his life. Harold was a prayer warrior and believed in the power of prayer. In addition, he was a long-time member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and served as a lay leader, a Sunday School teacher and a superintendent, and was a member of the U.M. Men Brotherhood. Additionally, Harold and his wife, Twila Mae, were chosen as winners in the Garrett County’s Most Beautiful Person annual contest in 1995. Harold had a magnetic personality, a contagious smile, and people were drawn to his jolly sense of humor. He was always ready to play a prank on someone and enjoyed having one played on him. Among his outstanding qualities, his genuine love and his sincere sensitivity for his family always came first. His grandchildren dearly loved him, and he always had ice cream to give them when they came to visit. He was a simplistic man with simple needs. It was never about what he had, but about what he could give and do for his family and others. Harold was respected and loved, and he made a positive difference on those who knew him. He will leave an impressive and unforgettable legacy. Friends will be received at the Mt. Zion U. Methodist Church, located on Rt. 40, National Highway, near Long Stretch, and east of Grantsville, MD, on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the church on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Agnew officiating. Interment will be at the cemetery on the family farm in Avilton. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffery Conner, Shane Kyle, Justin Conner, Harry Fike, great-grandsons, Damon Smith, Dustin Kyle and honorary pallbearers, Colton Thomas and Dakota Wilson. If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Building Fund and may be sent to, Lois Rowe, c/o Mt. Zion U.M. Church, 2693 Old Frostburg Rd., Frostburg, MD 21532.
