- AVILTON — Roy Davis Broadwater, 88, of Avilton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his home, with his loving family at his side. Born Aug. 23, 1924, in Avilton, he was the son of the late Albert James “Bert” and Martha (Platter) Broadwater. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie; his son-in-law, Eugene Miller; six brothers, Ray, Lee, Ellis, Marshall, Alvin and Russell Broadwater and three sisters, Eva Lewis, Laura Broadwater and Arvella Wilson. Roy was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Group. He was a member of Woodmen of World, Lodge 41, Grantsville; the Wednesday Morning Bowling League and the Avilton Community Association. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He had been employed as a custodian at Route 40 Elementary School for over 30 years and a school bus driver by the Garrett County Board of Education. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Diona Jean (Crowe) Broadwater; four sons, Monty Broadwater and wife, Patty and Lowell Broadwater and wife, Tracey, all of Avilton, Ricky Broadwater and wife, Sue, Meyersdale, Pa., Malcolm Broadwater, at home; five daughters, Barbara Miller and special friend, Barry Arvin and Gladys Galica and husband, Tim, all of Avilton, Denise McKinney and husband, David, Pocahontas, Pa., Wendy Miner and husband, Ronnie, Bittinger, Jody McClintock and husband, Steve, Grantsville; one brother, Charles Broadwater, Reedsville, W.Va.; 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Agnew officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Miller, Joe Galica, Ryan Broadwater, Jeremy Broadwater, Travis Beitzel and Seth Broadwater. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Miller, Douglas Galica, Gabe Broadwater, Ronnie Miner Jr., and Justin Broadwater. Military graveside honors will be accorded at graveside. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mount Zion UMC Building Fund, Hospice of Garrett County or Avilton Community Association.
