- Born in Ohio on May 22, 1947 she was the daughter of the late Clark A. Wheaton and Gene (Ruthem) Wheaton. She is preceded in death by a brother Ronald C. Wheaton. Joyce was a graduate of Wintersville High School in Ohio and West Liberty College in WV. She received her EdD from West Virginia University. She was a retired Professor Emeritus of Educational Professions at Frostburg State University. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, International Reading Association, Outward Bound, and the Soroptimist Club. Joyce was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir, and the Bell Choir. She is survived by her loving husband, Andy Crowe, son, Brian Azzi and wife Nora of Middletown, grandsons, Nicholas and William Azzi, sisters Leslie Cagot and husband Jack of Bloomingdale, OH; Marsha Marker and husband Robert of Wintersville, OH; sister in law Janet Wheaton of Ohio. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 8 at the Frostburg United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jen Webber officiating.
