- QUEENSTOWN - Frederick J. Morton of Queenstown, died at his home on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017. He was 67. Born June 7, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Fred and Betty Jenkins Morton. Mr. Morton grew up in Frostburg. He attended the University of Maryland College Park, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Mr. Morton enrolled in the Maryland State Police Academy, and he began his career in law enforcement, from which he retired at the rank of Sergeant after 25 years of service. Mr. Morton was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at the Jeff Davis Post 18 in Centreville. Fred made a friend of everyone he met. His quick wit and endless supply of humor made a person feel welcome immediately. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his son and daughter in-law, Jason and Emily Morton; and best friend of 60 years, William Payne (Denise). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at the Jetty Dock Bar in Grasonville, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to Compass Regional Hospice 160 Coursevall Dr. Centreville MD 21617 or Hope Lodge 636 W Lexington St Baltimore MD 21201.
