He was the son of Cecilia Jane (Glass) Twist and the late Joseph McGuire Jr. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Woodcock. He worked as a welder for Marshall Ruby and Sons and was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Michael. He is survived by his mother, Cecilia Jane (Glass) Twist; his son, Joseph McGuire IV of Canton, Ohio; his daughters, Christina Fitzpatrick of Cumberland, and Candice McGuire of Eckhart; several grandchildren; his brothers, John McGuire of Ridgeley, W.Va., Thomas Smith Jr. of Richmond, Va.; and his sister, Mary Leighty and husband, Terry, of Mt. Washington, Ky. A memorial service will be held at the Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Butch Wright officiating.
