- Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 14, 1933, in Cumberland, Mr. Porter was the son of the late Glison T. Porter and Myrtle Mary (Ross) Porter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth C. Porter, on Aug. 17, 2011; two brothers, Glison H. Porter and James D. Porter; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” H. Groves and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. George retired from the United States Air Force and also retired from the Thomas B. Finan Center. He was a member of the American Legion Post 136, Ridgeley, W.Va. George is survived by his son, Robert L. Porter, of Cumberland. He also leaves behind his grandsons, Michael A. Porter and Mark E. Porter, both of Virginia and his great-granddaughter, Mia Porter. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Bob Lloyd officiating. Interment will be in Eckhart Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. Cumberland Times-News, September 18, 2013
