- LaVale, MD - George Glendon Foster, 90, of LaVale, MD, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home, after a brief illness. Born June 18, 1925, in Westernport, MD, Mr. Foster was the son of the late Frank Foster and Florence (Ternent) Foster. He was also preceded in death by sisters Ruth Kelly and Hazel (Haywood) Smith and a brother, Frank “Tip” Foster, Jr. A graduate of Bruce High School, Class of 1943, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams, George was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having served with the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy. Following his military service, he graduated from Catherman's Business School and began his 37-year career with Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Company in the Production Control Department. George was recently recognized by the San Francisco/New York Giants baseball club as one of its longest and most loyal fans - 82 years! A lifelong sports fan, he actively participated in the creation of the LaVale Athletic Association and served as President for several years. George coached Peewee, Little League, Hot Stove and Rec League baseball teams in LaVale, and Park Place Church basketball teams. He also organized and played for the Kelly-Springfield volleyball team in the YMCA league. George was honored in 1991 as Allegany County's “Most Beautiful Person” based on his many years of volunteer service to the community. Also, as a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, he served as chairman of the Administrative Board, Trustee, and choir member. George is survived by his wife of 63 years: Marjorie Sue (Wilson) Foster; his children: Carol Shank and husband, Lindy, Keyser, WV; Bob Foster and wife, Patty, Tucson, AZ; Wayne Foster and Kathy Zambreny, both of Cumberland, MD; and Glenn Foster and wife, Lissa, Vienna, VA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Catina, Abby, C.J., Ryan, Greg, Jordan, Mark, Kyley, Rachel, and Joshua and seven great- grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Mildred “Sis,” niece Mary John, and nephews Ronnie and Danny. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., and also on Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Mary George and Reverend Lowell Garland officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be donated to Park Place United Methodist Church, Post Office Box #3224, LaVale, MD 21501-3224 or LaVale Athletic Association, Post Office Box #3063, LaVale, MD 21502. Additionally, the family would like to express special thanks to the devoted caregivers Helen, Rachel, Cheryl, Linda, Barbara, and Terri and to the WMHS Hospice Staff.
