- Holmes, Haywood, 55, of 13 Dundee Street, Piedmont, who was fatally injured yesterday when he was struck by a truck while working the Beryl woodyard Luke Mill of the Westvaco Corp. The service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the Boal Funeral Home in Westernport with Rev. Sumner Sawyers officiating. Burial will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, with graveside rites in charge of Mt. Carbon Lodge 28 AF & AM. According to a Westvaco spokesman, Mr. Haywood was struck by a truck that was backing into the chip dumping area of the woodyard where he was working. The accident occurred at approximately 11 a. m. Mr. Haywood was dead on arrival at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser. Mr. Haywood, a 38-year - employee of Westvaco, was a maintenance planner. He was a former city councilman of Piedmont, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, of Mt. Carbon Lodge, Victory Post 155, American Legion, Philos Lodge 91, IOOF and was an Army veteran of World War II. A native of Luke, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Amanda E. (Troy) Haywood. Surviving are his widow, Hazel (Foster) Haywood; a daughter, Mrs. James Devine, Reston, Va.; three brothers, Paul and Thomas Haywood, Luke, and Norman Haywood, Keyser; a sister, Mrs. George Wolfe, Luke, and three grandchildren. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Cumberland Evening Times, August 20, 1974
