    • CUMBERLAND - Charles Earl Humbertson, 86, of Cumberland, died Thursday, May 12, 2005, at his residence. Born Nov. 15, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Azariah Humbertson and Mary Elizabeth (Anderson) Humbertson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Humbertson, Feb. 14, 2005; an infant son, Lawrence Patrick; three brothers, Raymond E. Humbertson, Albert O. Humbertson and Ace H. Humbertson; and a son-in-law, Major Ernest Edward Miller. Mr. Humbertson graduated from Penn Avenue High School in 1936. He served with Company G, 115th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Division from 1941 to 1943 and was commissioned an officer in August 1943. He was assigned to the 7th Armored Division as an Antitank Unit Commander in Company C, 38th Armored Infantry Battalion. As a lieutenant, Mr. Humbertson fought in the Normandy, Northern France, Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland campaigns. Mr. Humbertson was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Cumberland until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 586, Wamba Caravan 89, International Order of the Alhambra, the Retired Officers Association, American Legion and 7th Armored Division Association. Surviving are four daughters, Earleen Wiseman and husband John, Cumberland, Kathy Miller and husband Ronnie, LaVale, Sue Gerhard and husband Paul, Frostburg and Robin Miller, San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Don Humbertson and wife Betty, Lake Ridge, Va., Jack Humbertson and wife Deborah, Baltimore; two sisters, LeVada Carney and Catherine Johnson, Cresaptown; nineteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special niece.

      Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
