- FROSTBURG — Carl Edward Martens, 80, of Frostburg, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Frostburg Village Nursing and Care Center. Born Dec. 25, 1934, to the late Walter Edward Martens and Emma Elizabeth (Tressler) Martens. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, George Franklin Martens, Robert Martens, Elmer Martens; four sisters, Lena Rizer, Hazel Martens, Emma Walker, and Eleanor Martha Beaver. He graduated from Beall High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. Carl was retired from PPG, where he worked in quality control and the accounting department. Surviving are his children, James Martens and wife, Carolin, son, Jonathan of Uniontown, Ohio, Janet (Martens) Stevens and husband, Jay, twins, Alex and Tristan of Eckhart, Julie (Martens) Forney and husband, John, of Millersburg, Pa., Jerry Martens and wife, Bonnie, daughter, Samantha, sons Joshua and Clay of Springfield, Ohio, Joanna (Martens) Schroyer and sons, Levi and Ben of Grantsville; sister, LaVerne Yutzy of Pocahontas, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was cremated in accordance with his wishes. A celebration of life will be held at First English Baptist Church, 136 E. Main Street, Frostburg, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Sandvick and the Rev. Everett Spence officiating. Friends and family will be received three hours prior to the service from noon to 3 p.m. Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park, at a later date. Cumberland Times-News, November 3, 2015
Carl Edward MARTENS and Nancy Darlene BAKER were married on 16 Nov 1958 in Grace Methodist Church, Midland, Maryland. The marriage of Miss Nancy Darlene Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles William Baker, O'Mara Avenue, Midland, to Carl Edward Martens, son of Mrs. Emma E. Martens, Washington Street, Frostburg, and the late Walter E. Martens, took place November 16 in Grace Methodist Church, Midland. Rev. Louis L. Emerick officiated, assisted by Rev. Charles S. Reckley. . . .Mrs. Martens is a graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State Teachers College. She is a member of the Beall High School faculty. Mr. Martens, also a graduate of Beall, served in World War II. He is a member of the statistical quality control department of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.
