- Joseph H. Martens, 76, of 1020 Ella Avenue, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1908 in Eckhart, he was a son of the late John E. Martens and Mary (Himmelwright) Martens. Mr. Martens was a retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad carman. He was a sergeant major in the Salvation Army and was a member of its Golden Agers organization, the Brotherhood of Railway - Carmen, and the Senior Citizens. His first wife was the late Cleo (Stewart) Martens. Survivors include his widow, the former Gladys Spielman; two sons, Harry Donald McCoy, Miami, Fla.; George R. McCoy, Walla Walla,Wash.; one brother, James Martens, of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kraus, Charlotte, N.C.; Mrs. Goldie Conner, West Palm Beach, Fla., and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Cumberland Times-News, September 4, 1985
