    • MIDLOTHIAN — John Samuel “Jack” Evans Sr., 78, of Midlothian, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Braddock Hospital. Born Sept. 21, 1930, in Frostburg, Jack was the son of the late George Evans and Regina (Weimer) Evans. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Evans. Mr. Evans was a retired auto mechanic with Art Kowell Ford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was a prisoner of war for 28 months. Jack was a member of Disabled American Veterans, the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Farrady Post 24 American Legion, Frostburg, V.F.W. Old Rail Post 6025, Mount Savage, and the Jim Dickel Korean War Veterans, Mount Savage. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Winebrenner) Evans; four sons, John S. Evans Jr. of Hagerstown, James Evans and wife Kimberly of Alexandria, Va., Joel Evans and wife Patricia of Frederick, and Jerry Evans and wife Dana of Frostburg; four grandchildren, Jason Evans and wife Heather, Amy Evans, Sarah Evans and Sacarra Evans; one great-grandchild, Hailey Evans; two sisters, Lois Patterson of Midlothian, and Sandra Fike and husband Ed, Grahamtown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Farrady Post 24 Honor Guard.
