- FROSTBURG — Mary E. Rice, 86, of Frostburg, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the WMHS Frostburg Nursing & Rehab Center. Mary was born on May 16, 1926 in Mount Savage to the late John and Helena (Brannon) Deffenbaugh. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert and John Deffenbaugh. Mrs. Rice was a retired cosmetologist. She was a life long member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mount Savage, Charter member of Old Rail Post 6025 VFW ladies auxiliary, Charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 245 ladies auxiliary. Surviving is her husband of 51 years, Donald C. Rice; son, Arthur D. Green and wife Brenda, Freemont, Calif.; grandchildren, John Green and wife Tara, Tonya Gunter and husband Del; five great-grandchildren, Zoe, Payton and Brooke Gunter, Brayden and Nicholas Green; sister, Ann Ferguson, Short Gap W.Va. Friends and family will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mount Savage on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Gregory Chervenak O.F.M. Cap. as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone. Pallbearers are Enordo “Moose” Arnone, Butch Elliott, Danny Williams, Joe Shimko, Jeff Shimko, Jimmy Hott and honorary pallbearer Denny Winebrenner.
