Lonaconing, Md., Dec. 17 - Henry Hacker, 75, native of Germany, who served in the Franco-Prussian War, died Friday evening at his home at Charlestown, a suburb. He came to Allegany county when a young man. He had been prospecting in the hills hereabout for years and was reputed to have discovered gold, silver and other metals. He was known as "the man of mystery" on account of his quiet prospecting. If he found gold and silver, outsiders have never been able to locate his mines. His first wife was killed twelve years ago when a son dropped a spark of powder at the home. The son, Louis, now of Martinsburg, W.Va., lost an eye. There are also six other children by the first marriage: Mrs. Rachel Ashby Lease, Henry Hacker and Fred Hacker, of Pittsburgh; Owen Hacker, Elkins, W.Va.; Charles and Ernest Hacker, Lonaconing.
