- "THE HISTORY OF THE GABRIEL McKENZIE AND RACHEL BLUBAUGH FAMILY OF MARYLAND AND OHIO" by Father Homer Blubaugh:
McKenzie, Hannah Frances, born July 20, 1883, received her college education at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.
The following tribute to Hannah is taken from the December, 1966, issue of the "Home Review", which states that "Miss McKenzie began teaching at the (Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans) Home(in Xenia) in 1925 and continued teaching elementary and junior high grades until she retired June 30, 1953, (almost at age 70). She resided in Columbus until she died July 1, 1966." This home is now called the Ohio Veterans Childrens' Home/OVCH.
Hannah is remembered "for originating the Decoration Day March and produced a yearly Christmas pageant which included the band, choir, and both high school drama students. Last year (1965) she presented the Home with
the white and green pennant with the inscription "Lest We Forget," which will henceforth be used in the annual Memorial Day March."
