      J. E. GRUBAUGH, 54, DIES AT HINES VET HOSPITAL

      "John Elden Grubaugh, 54, Ramsey rural route, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Hines Veterans hospital, near Chicago, where he had been a patient for about a month. The body was brought to Vandalia by Harold Blue and remained in the Blue Funeral home from Thursday until after the services, conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, by Rev. H. A. VanHorn, of St. Louis, former pastor of the Vandalia Free Methodist church. Burial was made in Maplewood cemetery, St. Elmo. Mr. Grubaugh had been a veteran of world war one and held membership with the American Legion. Military rites were accorded at the graveside by legionnaires."

      "Son of William F. and Mary J. (Wright) Grubaugh, he was born May 2, 1894 and lived practically all his life in Fayette county. His early life was spent in St. Elmo and vicinity where he reared his family. Later they were residents of Vandalia and lived in the dwelling of the courthouse square until it was disposed of, when they moved to the former Sonnemann property, where the family resided at the time of Mr. Grubaugh's incapacitation and death."

      "In additional to the widow, Ruth, he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Fern Weber, of Argenta; Mrs. Viola Linton, of Decatur; Mrs. Imogene Payne, of Peoria; and the Misses Helen and Mary Lou at home; a brother, Cleve of Beecher City; sisters, Mrs. Cora Reed of Decatur; the Mesdames Susan Koberlein, Ella Cox and Sarah Stark, residents of St. Elmo. His parents, a son Billy and four brothers and sisters are deceased."
