"Born near Galesville on Aug. 6, 1899, he was the son of John and Lulu Steele Hayes. He married Hazel Fern Hosler June 8, 1920 in Decatur." "Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife; son John W., RFD, Mansfield; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary Lou) Noecker, Jacksonville; two brothers, Tom, White Heath and Leslie, Pontiac; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one daughter, Mrs. Norma Mae Vaziley, who died in 1952 at the age of 29, preceded him in death." "A retired farmer, Mr. Hayes lived his entire life in the Galesville, Mansfield area. He was a member of the Galesville United Methodist Church and of the Modern Woodmen of America." "Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mackey Funeral Home.
