      "BETTY MCKENZIE IS MONDAY BRIDE"

      "Miss Betty McKenzie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McKenzie of 1214 North Water street, became the bride of Charles W. Burke, son of Mrs. Kate Burke of the East William road, in a 10 a.m. ceremony Monday in St. Louis Centenary Methodist church. Rev. Danson C. Bryan officiated. The couple was unattended."

      "Announcement of the marriage will come as a surprise to friends of the couple. The bride wore a costume of green wool and brown accessories on her wedding day. The couple returned to Decatur and will live in this city."

      "Mrs. Burke is a January 1931 (sic) graduate of Decatur high school and a member of Delta Theta Chi. She was a buyer for Stewart's Dry Goods Co. for more than four years, and recently has been in the office of the Economy Cleaners. Mr. Burke is a machinist in the parts department of B. B. Burns and Sons."

      "DECATUR--Mable Elizabeth "Betty" Burke, 84, of Decatur died at 8:30 p.m. (Feb. 1, 1999) in her residence."

      "Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday in J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Grace United Methodist Church or St. John's Hospice."

      "Mrs. Burke was born on March 31, 1914, in Lovington, the daughter of James Wilson and Susan Caroline Huffman McKenzie. She was office manager for Steward (sic) Dry Goods and later, Chumbley's Cleaners. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Ladies of the Elks. She was a l932 graduate of Decatur High School. She married Charles Burke on October 25, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo."

      "Surviving are her husband; several nieces and nephews, including Jim and wife, Georganna Bailey of Decatur; several great nieces and great-nephews."

      "She was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard, brother Willard McKenzie, and sister, Pearl Bailey."
