Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of William T. Mitchell, this city, and the late Mrs. Evelyn (Luteman) Mitchell. Mrs. Merritt was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Mothers Club of the parish and the LaSalle Mothers Club. Surviving , besides her husband, are a son, Arthur L. Merritt Jr., and three daughters, Misses Carol L., Pamela L. and Rene L. Merritt, all at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Florine Settle, of japan, and Mrs. Billie J. Griffin, this city.
