Notes |
- Robert Bruce Cannon Sr., 74, passed away in the early hours on Thursday Oct. 20, 2016, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center. Bobby, as he was known, had not been in good health for some time prior to the loss of his beloved wife Judy. He had been recently admitted to Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehab due to health problems. He had been saying his greatest desire these last few weeks was to go be with the Lord and with his beloved Judy. Born Nov. 29, 1941, in Cumberland, Mr. Cannon was the son of the late John William Marcellus Cannon and Eleanor Virginia (Messenger) Cannon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judy, on June 24, 2015; two brothers, John William Cannon Jr., and Charles Edward "PeeWee" Cannon; and two nephews, Charles Edward Cannon Jr., and Mark David Cannon. Bobby was a 1960 graduate of Allegany High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He lived most of his life in Cumberland. After his military service time ended, Bobby happened to be in Huntington, W.Va., at a McDonald's and there met the love of his life Judy Bower. It was love at first sight and they were married on May 13, 1966, in Cumberland. Bobby was employed for many years in the Maintenance Department at Sacred Heart Hospital. Owing to health reasons, he had to retire in 1991. During his retirement years, Bobby was active in helping to raise his granddaughter, Erika. He enjoyed fishing and loved all the other grandchildren who came along after Erika. Bobby is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Cannon; and two sons, Robert B. Cannon and wife, April, and John W. Cannon and wife, Brenda. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Erika, Lacey, Justyn, Ryan, Luke, Jessika, and Hayley; and grand nieces and nephews, Tamella, AJ, Zack, Rachel, Michael, Ashley, Kelsey, and Taylor all just like grandchildren who have only ever known him as "Pap;" and a great-grandson, Jace Andrew. Bobby is also survived by nieces and nephews near and far especially, Trena Lee Stoner and Wenda Lashbaugh, who were like daughters; and a number of sisters and brothers-in-law remain in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The deceased was cremated and a memorial service will be planned and announced for a later date. A special mention goes out to his grandson, Ryan Cannon, who has lived with his Pap this last year keeping him company and helping with his care. The Adams Family Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements. Published in Cumberland Times News, October 23, 2016
