- Earl D. Wilson, 85, of LaVale, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born May 24, 1929 in Frostburg; he was the son of the late David “Dan” J. Wilson and Emma (Layton) Wilson. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan “Jennie” (Pratt) Wilson and a sister, Patricia L. Ivy. Mr. Wilson was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. He was retired as a branch manager for First United Bank, Frostburg and a vice president and loan officer for Frostburg National Bank for 30 years. Earl was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean conflict. Surviving are children; Robert Wilson, Chestertown, MD, John Wilson and wife Maria, Vestal, NY, and Debra Wilson; two grandchildren; Elena Wilson, Houston, TX and James Wilson, Vestal; a sister; Shirley A. McKenzie and husband Paul, Avilton; eight brothers; William L. Wilson and wife Barbara, New Bern, NC, Gene J. Wilson and Barbara Currier, Walnut Creek, CA, Glenn O. Wilson and wife Betty, Antelope, CA, Paul “Pete” J. Wilson and wife Charlotte, Clarks Summit, PA, James G. Wilson and wife Angie, Austin, TX, Thomas J. Wilson and wife Betty, Frederick, Kenneth R. Wilson, and wife Barbara, Avilton, and Larry A. Wilson and wife Chris, Lake Wylie, SC; an aunt, Pansy Merrill, Grantsville and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10 am with Fr. Stephen Fernandes, OFM Cap. Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park. The family requests memorials be directed to Coal Miners Memorial Statue Fund, and sent to the Foundation for Frostburg, P.O. Box 765, Frostburg, MD 21532.
