Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where Moline American Legion Post 246 will conduct military honors. Those wishing to attend services may meet at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 2431 1st St., P.O. Box 126, Coal Valley, IL 61240.
Fred was born Nov. 12, 1936, in Moline, the son of Milton and Bernice K. Hagerman McKinzie. He married Carol J. Argenbright on Oct. 13, 1956, in Moline.
He attended Andalusia High School and then served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Fred was employed at Adel Plumbing and Trachtenberg Plumbing. He later worked as a salesman at Sexton Ford and manager of Southpark Lincoln/Mercury and Courtesy, Moline, and last for Brown's Real Estate in California.
He loved fishing and was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club, and a boxing coach for 16 years for the Visconi Tigers of Silvis. Fred started and coached the Coal Valley Miners football team. He was a fan of Western movies, especially John Wayne films.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters (and sons-in-law), Kim (Pete) Benson, Moline, and Kelly (Mark) McCombs, Colona; sons, Kevin McKinzie (special friend, Barb), Moline, Kye McKinzie, Moline, Kirk McKinzie, Moline; and seven grandchildren.
