- Edward Joseph Crowe, 79, of Cumberland passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 23, 1939, in Midland, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary (McVeigh) Crowe. Ed was a 1957 graduate of LaSalle High School and went on to further his education at Catherman's Business School. He became an insurance agent and assistant manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Ed was a member of Knights of Columbus, Cresaptown Chapter 5450, and even served as Grand Knight. He and his wife attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church for about 45 years before they moved to Cumberland and began attending services at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Ed was an avid Notre Dame football supporter; Notre Dame has lost their biggest fan. He was a loving husband, a wonderful dad, and the most supportive grandfather his grandson could have asked for. Surviving are his wife, H. Joan Crowe, Cumberland; daughter, Tina L. Cavanaugh and partner in life, Gary Higgins, Hagerstown; grandson, Christopher Cavanaugh and wife, Rebecca, Hagerstown; brother, Michael Clarke Crowe and wife, Arlyne, Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous loving, supportive nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Centerville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to National Cancer Institute. Make checks payable to the National Cancer Institute.
