From Dick MacKenzie in July, 2013:
Dennis: I finally completed the tree for Eli’s son Henry, and it’s in Ancestry as “MacKenzie-McKenzie family” if you can access. I can also send it to you in a PDF form for 6 generations (43 pages) or in GEDCOM form if you’d like to have it. Same goes for anyone else. BTW, Shelly Wilson shown as a recipient above is a descendant of that line via Henry’s son Daniel Eli.
So, next I thought I’d tackle Eli’s son Daniel m. Catherine Hartmann, who parented the “Conewago kids.” When I pulled out the records from Conewago Chapel something immediately hit me in the face. One of those listed is not Daniel’s, it’s Henry’s! Shown as “Thomas McKansy, son of Henricus and Sara McKansy, sponsors Joseph Burgoon and Maria Junson, b. 13 Aug 1801 bapt. 4 Oct 1801.” The birth date is 10 months after Henry McKenzie m. Sarah Johnson in Frederick Co. 8 Oct 1800, and helps explain another piece that I was missing. I knew from the 1820 Dearborn Co., IN Census that there were two sons shown that I knew nothing about, as they never appeared again and were not shown in Henry’s will. One was under 10 years old, the other 16-25, and I concluded that I’d never know who they were. Well now I’m certain that the 16-25 year old was Thomas, but what happened to him is still a mystery. The younger one must have died young, or was gone from the household by his teens. A side note: The Burgoon family accompanied Eli’s other son, John, to Loretto, Cambria Co., PA, and I’d bet that the other sponsor was actually Mary Johnson and probably Sarah’s sister. I’m more and more convinced that all the Conewago connection involved Eli’s family.
What’s also obvious based on places of birth for Henry’s children, is that he moved from Maryland to Cincinnati, OH @1809 and then across the river to Dearborn after 1814. That then begs the question: Who was the Henry who witnessed Eli’s purchase of land in then-Cambria Twp., Somerset Co., PA in 1802, shown as a resident of Cambria Twp? Cambria is too far away for someone to be popping back and forth from there to Frederick Co., MD and Adams Co., PA. Maybe Eli’s brother Henry? Mike, your recent communication with David Aiken, supposedly a descendant of Eli’s brother Henry, is most interesting, as he references a will that this Henry left. I’ll be contacting him about that, as I’d love to get a copy of that.
Mike, as for your question re Austin/Augustine being a son of Henry3, I believe that conclusion was from the research of the late Frederick Joe McKenzie of Oho, who descended from him. The fact that a son is not mentioned in a will is possible, as we all know. Let’s see where all that goes. I will have to ponder all this during our trip to the Baltic the last 2 weeks of July.
Regards to all,
Dick
