Notes |
- Frostburg, Aug. 17 - Moses Porter, aged 66 years, died at the Miners' Hospital yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock following an illness of eight months, caused by enlargement of glands of the neck. Mr. Porter had been confined to the hospital for the past month. He resided at 246 Mechanic street. Besides his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Porter, two sons, Daniel and John Porter, and three daughters, Mrs. Walter Plummer, Mrs. Philip Blocher, and Mrs. Lee Crowe, survive. His aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Sharpe, two step-brothers and two step-sisters, Chattanooga, Tenn., also survive. Mr. Porter was a member of the Grace M. E. Church South. Nearly all his life he had been engaged in the butcher business, working for Daniel Reese, for about1 13 years, later engaging in a business of his own. Ill health forced him to abandon his business and for a short time he sought to regain his health by outdoor work. He was last employed at the William Engle meat market on East Union street. He was born in Eckhart, Md. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with burial in Allegany Cemetery. The Cumberland Evening Times, August 17, 1923
