- OXFORD, Fla. — It is with great sadness that the family of Norma Jean McLuckie Delaney announces her passing Monday, July 5, 2021, at home in Oxford. Norma was 83. She was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Cumberland. She resided at Clover Hill Farm near Flintstone until her marriage on June 20,1959, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland. Norma graduated from Fort Hill High School (1955). She earned a bachelor's degree (1959) and a master's degree (1968) in Education at Frostburg State University. She earned a doctorate of education degree at the University of Maryland (1984). She worked as an elementary teacher, principal, and supervisor in Frederick, Hyndman, Pa., Monona Grove, Wis., and LaPlata, for 32 years and, after retirement in 1992, as a computer lab teacher (K8) at St. Mark's Episcopal School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for three years. Then she worked as a director and successful grant writer for the Cumberland YMCA in Cumberland. After moving to Summerfield, Fla., in 2006, she was a curator for Lady Lake Historical Society and Museum for 10 years until her retirement from the museum in 2017. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, William Joseph Delaney; son, Jay Glenn Delaney and wife, Dawn, of Macedonia, Ohio; grandson, Calvin Delaney; daughter, Joy Lynn Delaney, of Stratham, N.H.; grandson, Laith; and daughter, Julie Anne Delaney Corley and husband, Christopher, of Napa, Calif.; grandson, Jackson; and granddaughter, Ruby. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Norman McLuckie and Rebecca Mae (Edna) McKenzie McLuckie. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church in Summerfield on Wednesday, July 28, at 10 a.m. Memorial Mass will also be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Donations may be made in Norma's honor to Lady Lake Historical Society, Lady Lake, Fla., or Frostburg State University Class of 1959's Educational Scholarship Fund.
