RONCEVERTE, W.Va. - Carol Ruth McKenzie, 26, of Ronceverte, formerly of Keyser, W.Va., died Friday, May 27, 2011, in Caldwell, W.Va. Born March 27, 1985 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Wanda Kirk, Keyser, and John F. McKenzie, Cumberland. She was a graduate of Keyser High School and had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Davis & Elkins College. Currently, Carol was pursuing a Master's Degree from Ashford University. While in college, Carol was a member of the Women's Cross Country team. She also enjoyed painting and drawing. Carol was employed at The Greenbrier Academy for Girls. In addition to her parents, she is survived by four siblings, Kirk M. McKenzie, French Creek, W.Va., Elizabeth A. Ramsey, Lincolnton, N.C., April M. Rich, Elkins, W.Va., and William C. Paul, USN, Gulfport, Miss.; and her maternal grandmother, Anna M. Kirk, Wiley Ford, W.Va. Carol was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline W. McKenzie; her maternal grandfather, Edgar K. Kirk Jr.; and her paternal grandparents, Virgil and Mary McKenzie. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, (1-888-724-2251) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until noon. The funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home with Fr. Benedict Kapa officiating. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Davis & Elkins College, Men's and Women's Cross Country teams, 100 Campus Drive, Elkins, WV 26241.
