Willis and William Wilder were born in North
Carolina- exact dates and places unknown. Willis
definitely fought in the Revolutionary War and
William was said to have fought in the Rev War, but
didn't apply for a pension. William did receive a
land grant for Rev War service. I assume them to be
brothers, but that is only because they are in near
proximity in Jones County and Willis is a witness on
several deeds and William Wilder's will. In the
Wilder book, it says they fought with Elijiah Clarke.
Georgia's Roster of the Revolution - Knight 1967
nominates Willis Wilder as a sergeant, Major
______Wilder and Faddy Whittington (pg 432). Is
William the major? Page 436, Georgia Revolutionary

By this time Faddy Whittington had moved to Pike
County, Ga and I lose track of him. William Wilder
had died by 1835. William Wilder married first wife
unknown, second: Mary Whittington and thirdly Frances
(Fanny- no surname found) Willis Wilder may have been
married prior to his marriage to Pheriba Clarke

Willis Wilder also purchased land on 10th of May,
1810 from John Bolding of Warrenton County, Ga to
Willis Wilder of Jones County which was originally

On the 18th day of May, 1819 Reuben Roberts, Green
Wilder and John Jenkins, JP witnessed the deed
selling Jones County land of Absalom Jordan to Joseph
Stiles.
William Wilder's daughter Elizabeth married a
Roberts. They all witnessed deeds for each other and
the families seem very close. I will search for a few
other records. I am descended from William Wilder and
would love to share information on this family.
Mathew Wilder's will indicates his son William who
may not have been 21 at the time the will was
written. Willis and William must have been born
about 1755- I don't have definitive proof on their
parents, so would be to old.
gaila@merrington.net Extract From the History of Jones County, Ga Pg 220 History of Jones County Green Roberts House "John Wilder sold 101 1/2 acres of land to William Wilder on July 6, 1820 and William built a house. In 1852 Green Roberts bought the house from William Wilder. At some time rooms were added prior to this. Wooden pegs and hand hewn timbers of virgin pine were used in the construction and the house is sound and attractive now. The great-granddaughter of Green Roberts (Mrs George Hadaway) lives in the house now and it is owned by Mrs CC Jones of Macon. " I am pretty sure that William Wilder would have been the gr-gr-gr-grandfather of Mrs Hadaway. I believe, Green Roberts, who purchased the house was William's Grandchild, the son of Luke Roberts and Elizabeth Wilder. Gale Fordham kindly took this photo and allowed me to share it. Please contact me if you descend from William Wilder of Jones County, Ga. Regards, Gaila
