Sam was born on June 21, 1938, in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, to Onnie L. and Clara Sullivan Bailes and was a lifetime resident of this area. He was a 1958 graduate of Texas Academy of Art. For more than 15 years, Sam has earned critical acclaim in the art world for his pen and ink drawings. Some of his work is in the permanent collection in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, Kansas. His work also hangs in numerous private collections in Houston and Dallas, as well as Mexico and Central America.
